7 Wise Choices That Will Change Your Life For The Better

The Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and care for it. But the Lord God gave him this warning: “You may freely eat any fruit in the garden except fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat of its fruit, you will surely die” (Genesis 2:15-17).

The Garden of Eden was a perfect environment. It was an idea situation for man to enjoy the rest of his life living in harmony with God. A place God made for man’s pleasure. But that didn’t last long because something happened that would change our life forever.

What was it? Was it temptation? Is temptation the reason we live today with illness and is it the cause of our worries?

We often blame temptation and the devil for our problems, situations and circumstances. But for every situations you find yourself in you had a choice in the matter. You may not had chosen what happened but you choose the way you responded or reacted.

God gives us mercy, favor, and grace. He also gives us the freedom of choice. It was one of the first things He gave to man. But because Adam and Eve didn’t practice their free-will wisely, today we all live with sin and death. Life or death comes down to the choices we make that’s why it’s important for us to make wise ones. Not only does our spiritual, mental and emotional well-being depends on it, but our lives and the lives of our children depends on it as well.

“Now listen! Today I am giving you a choice between prosperity and disaster, between life and death. I have commanded you today to love the LORD your God and to keep his commands, laws, and regulations by walking in his ways. If you do this, you will live and become a great nation, and the LORD your God will bless you and the land you are about to enter and occupy. But if your heart turns away and you refuse to listen, and if you are drawn away to serve and worship other gods, then I warn you now that you will certainly be destroyed. You will not live a long, good life in the land you are crossing the Jordan to occupy. Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessing and curses. I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, that you and your descendants might live!” (Deuteronomy 30:15-19)

It really don’t get any clearer than that. Choosing God’s way leads to a joyful life on earth and an eternal life with Him. On the other hand, choosing other gods (like yourself, money or career) leads to disaster and death. Knowing these consequences should help you make the right choice. God leave the choice up to you.

In the scripture above twice it reads… Today I am/have giving you a choice.

Right NOW at this very moment God is opening the door and inviting you to choose life. Right NOW He’s giving you the opportunity to repent and give your life to Him.  Right NOW He’s giving you, through this post, a chance to live and a chance for your children to live. Oh, how He so desperately wants you to choose life!

Let us pray…

Heavenly Father someone right now who’s reading this want to change their life and live but don’t know how. They believe the things they have done is too much for you to forgive. God help them to forgive themselves first. Then help them to believe that you are a God of second, third and fourth chances. Help them to believe that no matter what they have done you love them and desire that they give their life to you. God you said in your word that today you are giving them a chance to live. A chance to choose life over death. I believe you and I thank you in advance for the souls that will be saved because of your living power. Amen!

Did you know that not deciding is deciding? Also did you know procrastinating to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior is in actuality not accepting Him? We make decisions everyday and think nothing of it. Some decide to sit in front of the TV for hours doing noting and wonder why their life haven’t changed. They wonder why they haven’t lost weight or gotten that career job they always wanted.  Watching television isn’t their problem it’s the doing nothing part that is.

See there’s a different between making a decision and making a choice. (Tweet this)

When you make a decision you’re deciding based on what you believe. For example, at the end of last year many people decided to make a New Year’s resolution because they may believe it’s the right thing to do or that they needed a change. They could have even purchased a membership to a fitness center. But study shows nine days later they usually quit. Why? Because it was a decision and with decisions your feeling are involved so if you don’t feel like doing it anymore you don’t. When someone makes a choice there’s action involved but not the kind of action when making a decision.

Decision actions comes from self-will. It’s a mental will-power than anything else and that’s why people get stuck when making decisions. Because they are trying to make sense out of something that doesn’t require making sense. On the other hand, a choice requires action also but here’s the kicker…IT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH WHAT YOU BELIEVE OR WHAT YOU FEEL.  You can choose to believe in GOD or not but the outcome has been made. GOD IS GOD. That’s why God said choose life or death and not decide life or death.

Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you. (Psalm 37:5)

“Look! Here I stand at the door and knocks. if you hear me calling and open the door, I will come in, and will share a meal as friends.” (Revelation 3:20)

When you make a wise choice God will help you.(Tweet this) People hear God telling them what to do but they don’t corporate because they choose not to open the door to let Him into their heart. God tells you to wisely choose life today while Satan tells you to decide later and wait until tomorrow. But what if Jesus returned today would you be ready?

Here are God’s wise choices for your chance to live:

Choose To Let God Into Your Heart.

Flickr photo/honorbound

Let the words of Christ, in all their richness, live in your hearts and make you wise. Use his words to teach and counsel each other (Colossians 3:16).

The wise thing you can do is let God into your heart and allow Him to teach you and guide you. There is only one way to do this and it’s by being honest with yourself and God. In other words… CONFESS YOUR SINS. God is a God of truth so be honest with how you feel, think and act. If you don’t believe in God, tell Him. He knows your heart anyway so learn to tell on yourself.  Those secrets you said you’ll never tell anyone about confess them out loud to Him. This will not only free you but it will begin the healing process of your spirit. Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed (James 5:16).

Choose Happiness By Paying Attention To What You’re Focused On

Whatever you focus on you give it power over you. It becomes the driving force in your life. For example, if you focus on your career more than your family than your family will be second to your career. And if you focus on your past more than the present you would never find happiness because happiness is in the NOW.

Did you know that happiness can be found in every situation if you understand God is in control? And did you know no matter how bad you’re feeling if you start focusing on positive things your feeling will change? By paying close attention to your focus you can enjoy peace and joy everyday.

Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned from me and heard from me and saw me doing, and the God of peace will be with you (Philippians 4:8-9).

Choose Acceptance More Than Trying To Change Everything

Watgzvkespezwwwkw2iiThe best way you can demonstrate your faith is by accepting what is.  Life has a natural flow and it’s not always going to flow the way you like it to flow. People will disappoint you and loved ones will pass. It’s called life on its terms. Many people have a problem when life shows up. They would rather try to change what is than accept it. This only causes them more pain and problems. But acceptance gets you into the solution because it’s a profound wisdom that comes from God and it gives you insight to know the difference between what you can and cannot change.

Choose To be Grateful For What You Have

In life we are given many gifts. Sadly often it’s the gifts that people are grateful for more than the giver. When you choice to be grateful your emotional well-being and your spiritual health means more to you than material prosperity. You’re grateful for the peace of mind God have given you and you’re thankful He provided what was lacking in your life without Him; A loving relationship with self.

Choose To Pray About Everything

Praying is a direct line to God. His line is never busy and He won’t ever put you on hold. You can talk to Him at anytime and anywhere. The key to a prayer life is not what you say or how long you say it but how honest you are in what you’re praying about. The more honest you are in prayer the easier prayer becomes. As you honestly tells God about everything, He begins to clean you from the inside out.  You find yourself no longer having to pretend to be someone you’re not and you’ll find yourself being honest with everyone you come in contact with. It will become a lifestyle so today start praying about everything and watch how the power of prayer transform your life.

Choose To Put God and Others Before Yourself

Putting others before yourself should start as soon as you wake. Your mind should be focused on how you can serve others. If you’re anything like I use to be you wake-up thinking about self. And if you’re not careful you can become obsess with self and that’s never good.  But when you choose to put God and others before yourselves you live a happier stabled life because you’re balanced spiritually, emotionally and mentally.   What more could you ask for right? The process for an abundance life can take place only as you learn to love others more than yourself.

Choose To Live In The Here and Now

Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.  *Buddha*

The past and the future are things the mind creates. The above quote suggests we concentrate on the present moment because it takes a conscious mind to enjoy life. And life is only lived in the present. Living in the present is a war you win if you fight to the end by not judging what is. When you stop being critical of everything you begin to realize how beautiful life is, but that can only be experienced in the here and now.

Life-or-death is a decision we all have to make. God has given us the gift of free-will; the ability to make our own choices. Although life may not look promising to you at this time you have the choice to set your heart and mind to choose life. Oh how GOD wants you to choose life!

ASK  YOURSELF:

DO I HAVE AN ACCURATE UNDERSTANDING OF GOD?

DO I BELIEVE GOD HAS THE POWER TO START CHANGING ME TODAY?

DO I BELIEVE I HAVE A CHOICE?

  1. Touching lines “Heavenly Father someone right now who’s reading this want to change their life and live but don’t know how”.

Let me join the Prayer this morning.- AMEN.

  2. Oh Vernon ! These lines are so captivating. “Heavenly Father someone right now who’s reading this want to change their life and live but don’t know how”. I love to read these over and over as a prayer.

    ThankU.

  3. Choose to be grateful to what you have 🙂 This cannot be repeated enough times because I think we keep forgetting to notice how much we have been blessed with! And yet the vagaries of the mind keep pulling us away from this feeling of gratitude and fulifill-ness!

Keep writing such great posts 🙂
    Cheers!
    Nik

    • Hi Nikshep,

Life is so much better and easier when we are grateful. It’s the best way to express our love to God because everything we have comes from Him.

I like to meditate on things I have like good health, a loving family and employment. I call it my mental gratitude list and it keeps me content.

      Thanks for coming by!

  4. Hi Vernon sir, Your every post is so touching and deals with spirituality. This is the reason why I love visiting your blog. I get a positive message every time I visit the blog.

I liked the point, Choose to put God and others before yourself. In my opinion, if we think of others we will get the same love and support from them too. And nothing could be great than helping people. We must believe in the power of prayer.

Being grateful is the best. I want to share a quote,”I believe if you keep your faith, you keep your trust, you keep the right attitude, if you’re grateful, you’ll see God open up new doors.”

Thanks a lot Vernon sir for this wonderful post.

    Always positive and optimist,
    Rohan.

    • Hi little buddy! 😀

When we put others before ourselves we do get the same love in return. But it’s not always from the person we showed love too. That’s why it’s important that we don’t get discouraged. And that’s what they mean when they say it’s better to give than received. You are a great example of that1 🙂

Gratitude shows in the way that we live. When we pray that’s gratitude. When we put others first, that’s gratitude. Sometimes when I think about my life and how bless I am I begin to cry and that’s gratitude. Gratitude speaks for itself.

This quote is awesome and true. I have to remember it. Thank you so much for the reblog!

      Have a bless day!

  5. Reblogged this on Bluemoon.com and commented:
    Vernon sir’s great thoughts.

  6. Hi Vernon! You are right. We do live in a world where death and pain exists. We all have been sick and we all lost dear ones. This was not our choice. It was also not God’s choice. It came with the free will. But what is our choice is how to react. And this makes a big difference. You have mentioned a lot of great choices. For me, being thankful and living in the here and now are very important choices. Thank you!

    • Hi Ilka,

We are blessed to not be forced to follow Him. God wants us to follow Him because we love Him and for what he have done for us.
You’re right! How we react is the only thing we have control of. Honestly it took me a long time to recognize that then I had to learn to be okay with it.

It was only until I started putting other people concerns before mine that I learned that everything isn’t about me. And that we all have the same problems we all just don’t respond the same.

And that’s the key: respond and not react.

      Thanks for visiting!

  7. Hello, Vernon,

Awesome article, and I agree with all of your points. I have excepted the Lord into my heart, and I definitely try to live in the here and now.

Yes, I absolutely agree that not deciding is actually making a decision….Which folks don’t realize sometimes.

Your point about praying about everything is a good one, I’m still working on that. Have prayed to remember to pray, if that makes sense! lol

Thank you for sharing these inspirational thoughts, And I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

    ˜Carol

  8. Hi Carol,

Having to pray to remember to pray make totally good sense! We have not because we asked not. When I thought of that it was a reminder to myself so you’re not along on that one.

What I like most about praying is we can do it anywhere and we don’t have to be a bible scholar either. He said He will never leave us and He always keep His word.

    Thanks!

  9. Hi Vernon,
    You are very spiritual buddy.
    Awesome post you have shared.
Choosing something is importantcin our life. It becomes difficult when we have to choose one from many.
“Choose acceptance than changing anything” this one touched deep in me. Yeah you are right, we can’t chang everything instead we can accept it.
    Keep going bro
    Regards,
    Rahul

    • Hi Rahul,

Good to see you here again. Yes I had always thought of myself spiritual and not religious. I truly believe there’s a difference. Accepting life as it is was hard for me. Because I like for things to go smoothly. But that’s not how it works.

But we learn how to accept life by working on our spirituality and our short coming.

      Thanks for visiting!

  10. Hi Vernon,

    Really powerful stuff here.

Great post. It reminds us that we are in the driver seat when it comes to our lives. Like you said you may not be able to dictate what happens but how you handle it can surely impact it’s influence.

“It take a conscious mind to enjoy life.” That really resonates with me because it seems like people are moving through it so fast that they are not in the present moment. Being present not only allows you to enjoy but to build. When you’re paying attention to what you enjoy you can duplicate it and be happier.

    ~Lea

    • Hi Lea,

Yes we are in control of our life and a lot of people don’t believe or even know they have a choice. They live their life by default.

Being conscious is big to me also because I can easily project to the future and not pay attention to my present. And like you said it helps build our relationships.

      Thanks!

  11. Hi Vernon
As unusual very powerful words of advice. I love that you speak boldly the word of God. we need more men like you in our society. I know that God has an anointing on your life and he will take you to your goal and destiny.

God gave us the power of choice but he told us to choose life. Isn’t that great? I wish we would all obey God because the world would definitely be a better place.
    God bless you.

    • Turning our life over to Him is walking boldly in His word. I thank you Beverley for blessing me. We need to make wise choices in our life while there is still time. Because we don’t know when He will return.

  12. Hi Vernon

What a wonderful post. Your message is so powerful.

You are right about the difference between decision and choice. God has given us the power to make a choice but that is not all, even when we make a mistake, he is always there to help us and lead us to the right path.

I love the prayer. It was touching. God bless you. All you have said is so true. Thank you for sharing.

    • Hi Ikechi,

It’s always a pleasure to see you here. I like that you mentioned Him providing a way out after we had made a bad choice.

That’s important to understand because many people think He stops loving them.

That’s why we need people to walk with us to encourage us when we become discouraged.

  13. Thanks for a great writing. It is always helpful to remember to thank our Lord and savior for what we have. I like your writing about accepting God’s will and trying to change everything also. God Bless you, your family and ministry

    • Hi Prophetess Elaine,

I want to first welcome you to my site. It’s always a blessing to see new visitors. Growing spiritually is a process that requires us to find something to be thankful for everyday. And there is always something to be grateful for.

God bless you and your family as well. And please do come back.

  14. I love “choose to put God and others before yourself.” Great choice list and great prayers too.

  15. Hi Vernon,

Sorry for hopping in late, but glad I made it 🙂

This one post has sufficient information enough for self transformation to lead a happy and peaceful life. 🙂

Yes, life is all about the choices we make. Have you noticed how the train changes its tracks? It’s the same way we change the track of our life by making choices. Every moment we have many options at our disposal, and we have to make a choice. We must do that wisely, remembering the Lord, so that we are sure to make the good and right choices.

Temptation is making the choice that you shouldn’t have, as that may do you harm. Our senses sometimes misguide us to make the wrong choice. So, you need to have a good master of the senses, the mind.

It’s our free-will that either makes or destroys us. It’s use is as that of a knife. But we need it as it’s use is important for us to progress. There’s only one way to be truly happy, and that is using the free-will in the right way and for the right thing. If we don’t know what is right or wrong, we surrender and leave it all up to the Lord to guide us.

Since life is a gift, every moment is precious. If we keep making the right choices, we keep making our life more precious. Thanks for sharing God’s wise choices with us.

I believe this is very important – being honest with yourself and God. You should not fool yourself, make excuses, or deaden your conscience. Always be the truth, and that is the choice that leads to God. It’s true that “This will not only free you but it will begin the healing process of your spirit.”

You’re right about achieving happiness, it is in the NOW and you need to be focused on the positive and pure. Acceptance, gratefulness, praying are all the choices that we should make every moment. I like this statement “Putting others before yourself should start as soon as you wake. Your mind should be focused on how you can serve others.” Serving and helping are ways to have happiness in life.

I agree that life is definitely lived in the present. It’s easier said than done, yet everyone should try to practice it and achieve the state of mindfulness. I choose life by making the best and right choices.

Thank you so much for these words of wisdom, as they bring peace to the heart and mind. I appreciate the kind mention to one of my posts too. Have a nice week ahead 🙂

  16. POWERFUL post here. So much wisdom in this one post.

    • Thank you Lilka for your kind words and I want to apologize for taking so long to reply. You are a blessing my site. Just like common sense is rare so is Godly wisdom. I think that’s why God wrote a whole book on wisdom.

      • No need to apologize! Between my unusual work schedule and just “life” I can’t get on WP daily and I realize others are just busy.

Your kind words are very much appreciated. And thanks for the reminder, I have a chapter of Proverbs awaiting me… 🙂

  17. Hi Vernon
I feel you put on a bit of a personal development masterclass with this one, lots of gold nuggets to choose from.

Great distinction you make between the decision and the choice and how to be successful we need to choose what’s right regardless of our present emotions.

“Sadly often it’s the gifts that people are grateful for more than the giver.” – I have done this, and I do this. It is something I strive to change as it is our relationships that are of the utmost importance in life. Thanks for the reminder.

Your passion is contagious, I want to go do my best work after reading your writing. Thank you!
    AJ

    • Hey AJ,

Welcome to my blog! You kinds words I receive with a humble heart. No matter how we’re feeling we have a choice. I’m guilty of playing the tape over and over in my head thinking it’s going to take my problems away. But guess what? It never does.

But when I choice to accept it, it loses its power and goes away. Funny how that happens. 🙂

There are so many people who are in situations that they don’t want to be in. Fear has blinded them to not see that they have a choice.

      Thanks for visiting!

  18. Hi Vernon,

Very touching post you made and its full of life and happiness.I enjoyed reading it.You’re right that life is all about choices we make not decisions. So we should really be careful while choosing the right path for our lives and once we choose something, we shouldn’t regret it.Instead of complaining all the time as many people do (including myself 🙂 ) we should be grateful for what we have that’s the key for the happiness. Thanks for such a lovely post. 🙂

    • Welcome to my blog and I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it! You’re right we shouldn’t beat ourselves up for making bad choices. I’m glad you mentioned that because that alone is a choice. How we react after making bad choices.

Gratitude helps build our confidence and our faith and that leads us to happiness. Because when I think about it, all we ever wanted in life is to feel good about who we are.

I’m glad to have you here and please do come back to see us. You’re always welcome!

  19. We have many ways and choices to make our life better. Each people sometimes has their own ways. Hope our life will be better
