Fighting Hidden Battles Is The First Strategy In War

Did you know there is a battle going on inside you for control of your thoughts, attitude and actions?

Are you aware of the war around you influencing them?

Think about the phase “It’s me against the world” for a moment.

Have you ever felt like that before?

I know I have.

The world isn’t your friend.

Matter of fact, the world hates you.

The phrase should read the world against you because you were born into a world that’s ruled by Satan.

You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil-the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. (Ephesians 2:2 NLT)

We were all born with an evil nature that’s powerless against sin.

That’s why we need the help of the Holy Spirit and the power of prayer to keep us in God’s grace and protect our heart.

There’s nothing that can protect us like prayer!

I’m still overwhelmed how profound the movie War Room was.

If you haven’t seen it please added it to your must see movie list.

Yes it’s that good!

Our pastor was so moved by it he started preaching a series on it.

And our guest bedroom, well, we now call our War Room.

Satan had a team of demons waiting for you the day you was born.

God had a team waiting for your delivery too…

When God declared war on Satan in Genesis 3:15 He knew Satan would do all he could to defeat you spiritually.

“From now on, you and the woman will be enemies, and your offspring and her offspring will be enemies. He will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” (Genesis 3:15 NLT)

Satan strikes your heel to trip you up.

He uses deception, lies and pride to get you to believe this world is your home and there is no God.

During time of war usually there’s one battle taking place and occasionally you’ll hear about two-fronts going on at the same time.

But Christians are unique because we are in three different hidden battles on the unseen fronts simultaneously:

Where do you think all these appalling wars and quarrels come from? Do you think they just happen? Think again. They come about because you want your own way, and fight for it deep inside yourselves. You lust for what you don’t have and are willing to kill to get it. You want what isn’t yours and will risk violence to get your hands on it. (James 4:1-2 MSG)

Your flesh has a lot to do with it. It wants what it wants when it wants it.

I said earlier we are powerless over this sinful nature.

It’s imperative you understand and accept this truth because Satan is intelligent and cunning.

The Bible says he’s crafty.

His  job is to kill, steal and destroy with the only intention to keep you away from God.

But [now] I am fearful, lest that even as the serpent beguiled Eve by his cunning so your minds may be corrupted and seduced from wholehearted and sincere and pure devotion to Christ. (2 Corinthians 11:4 AMP)

Don’t doubt like Eve did.

You must KNOW and believe Who and Whom you are in Christ.

You must KNOW and believe the power of sin was broken when you were baptized into Jesus death.

You must KNOW and believe that the old man was crucified.

You must KNOW and believe Jesus raised from the dead and dies no more.

Knowing helps you discern between your flesh actively craving and Satan deceitfully speaking.

Knowing helps you walk by faith regardless.

God calls us His soldiers and in order to be good soldiers we must listen and follow the Commander of Chief to learn and KNOW how the enemy attacks.

Satan attacks by convincing you that good can come out of bad just like he convinced Eve.

The woman was convinced. The fruit looked so fresh and delicious, and it would make her so wise! (Genesis 3:6 NLT)

Was it Satan who told Eve the fruit looks good?

IT WAS HER CORRUPTED HEART share_1455207654900

The heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful, a puzzle that no one can figure out. But I, God, search the heart and examine the mind. I get to the heart of the human. I get to the root of things. I treat them as they really are, not as they pretend to be.” (Jeremiah 17:9-10 MSG)

Lust of the eyes and flesh are hidden battles many people don’t consider because they believe they must act on everything they feel, think and want.

That’s a lie.

God always have a way out and in this case it’s called spirit of self-control.

All wars and fighting start from the corruption of the heart.

Lust for power, greed, and pleasures are very real battles and is why many Christians lack contentment and joy.

And yet the reason you don’t have what you want is that you don’t as God for it. And even when you do ask, you don’t get it because your whole motive is wrong-you want only what will give you pleasure. (James 4:2-3 NLT)

It’s hard to ask God for something when your motives isn’t pure. That’s why David asked God to examine his heart and motives in Psalms 26:2.

He knew he was powerless over sin.

  1. Submit To God will change your thinking. You will have the ability to play the whole tape through. The devil wants you to play and remember just the good parts of sin that’s pleasing to the flesh. He don’t want you to remember the consequences of them.
  2. Resist The Devil is an attitude. Eve and Jesus were both tempted by Satan. Eve sinned because she entertained sinful thoughts but Jesus didn’t when he was tempted. His respond was resisting Satan with the Word of God and a faithful attitude.
  3. Draw Near To God is a decision only you can make. When you draw close to Him. He will draw close to you. Presenting yourself to God comes natural once your attitude starts to change.
  4. Cleanse Your Hands is when you change your lifestyle. You no longer wants to do the things you use to do. It’s letting God teach you a new way to live.
  5. Purify Your Heart is understanding you’re not perfect. Christians are striving to get better one day at a time to please their Father.
  6. Humble Yourself is knowing you can’t defeat temptation on your own. It’s understanding you must tell a trusted friend and God, when your flesh wants to sin and when the Devil is encouraging you to act on that thought or feeling.

Knowing the strategy of the flesh is simple. When you thinks it’s all about you that’s the flesh working.

But resisting it is a different story because it takes courage to fight the good fight of faith.

Make yourself a War Room and learn to fight temptation back by praying sincerely what’s in your heart.

The devil wants you to believe prayer is a sinless technique but it’s not.

It’s an internal attitude that deal honestly with reality.

But when you pray, go into your [most] private room, and, closing the door, pray to your Father, Who is in secret; and your Father, Who sees in secret, will reward you in the open. (Matthew 6:6 AMP)

In praying, what do I find is my biggest challenge?

What ways can I resist the devil ?

  1. Hi Vernon

This such a well written and well executed post from start to finish. I really enjoyed reading it. The battle rages on and yes it starts in the mind. Actually it is said that our mind is the battle field. Flesh continue to war against the spirit but we must continue to pray and ask God to reveal the strategy to us of how to overcome the wicked one. Some very good strategies that we can adopt to win the war against our unruly flesh. 🙂 God is the only one who can and will help us to overcome.

    • I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it Yvonne.

Apostle Paul struggled with sin just like we all have.

He knew the good he supposed to do but no matter how hard he fought the battle he always found himself doing the very thing he knew was wrong.

We must not become discouraged because like you said, God will help us win this war.

Thanks and have a blessed weekend.

  2. Hi Vernon,

    Wonderful post indeed 🙂

Yes, we all have a negative side and an inclination towards it. I agree that prayers are powerful and help us remain steadfast and hold ground on the good side remaining positive.

You’re right about the war going on in our head, conflicting thoughts, and fluctuation of emotions. Our mind and heart do get corrupted and what we need a strong belief in self, connection to our inner self. We can definitely cleanse our heart and mind by prayers and meditation and by exercising, as you said, self-control.

I agree with all the points you’ve mentioned to win over your negative side; purifying yourself leads to positive results.

Thanks for this powerful and inspiring post. Have a nice weekend 🙂

    • Hi Harleena,

Sometimes those conflicting thoughts I watch until they are done fighting. I know two things:

      1) I can’t control them
      2) I’m the one with the final decision

That’s why it’s important that we trust God to direct us through the advice of others. Because we by ourselves are in bad company.

We must be careful what we feed our mind. Filling it with evil thoughts and images hinder our spiritual growth and our relationship with God.

      See you around,

  3. Hi Vernon,

It’s interesting to see your understanding of inner conflict in terms of good and evil.

Certainly, we all have battles of one sort or another that rage within us.

Our greatest strength lies within our selves and our innate sense of what’s right and wrong.

    • Hi Donna,

Our strength does comes from within. He dwell in us and gives us the power to overcome.

Such power should encourage us to understand all we need to do is get out of He way.

We have all failed from time to time even though we known right from wrong.

But knowing God has forgiven us should give us courage to keep fighting until He returns.

It’s always a blessing to see you here.

  4. Hey Vernon,

Is certainly easier to take what is not ours to take because we want it. We can lust and cross the lines that will gives us pleasure but more pain and we can feel as if the world is against when we are not balanced. I agree evils are an easy path to walk if you don’t have a conscience.

I meditate every day and for this I am given clarity and balance of mind. For whatever reason I was lucky right throughout my life. I knew the difference between good and bad. I made wrong choices and for that would suffer with guilt, remorse and self loathing. Once I realised that these emotions are very uncomfortable I got good at seeing the consequences of my actions before I did them. This lead me on a path of the straight and narrow. I am far from a saint, but I tell you Vernon, doing what is right comes easy.

Thanks for reiterating to me that I really do enjoy where I’m at mentally.

    • Hi Rachel,

I always admired your positive attitude. I see you’re like me who has the desire to be greater than self.

I read your post on meditation and now I’m mediating too. 😀

I don’t do it as often as I like but on the days I do I seemed to be more relaxed and focused.

And sometimes my friend it takes suffering to awaken us and help us to realize how wonderful our life is by making wise decisions.

      Have a great day,

  5. Happy Sunday:

I especially liked your quote…”Not Every Problem You Have In Life is Satan’s Fault.” Powerful, and a reason to go inside and check. It’s a reason to define the word “blame.” Where are we placing it, and why is it so easy to say it’s the devil’s fault?

Jehovah gave us the power to choose. What are we using our blessing of choice to divine in our lives? And how long will we choose this path?

Questions are excellent ways to help us find our way back from the depths of utter chaos and despair. Interestingly enough, even the word “evil” gives us a way to turn our lives around. In it too lies a way to regain our footing.

Because in the reverse evil becomes the word LIVE!

    Thanks for sharing this post.

    • Hi Jen,

Jehovah did give us the power of choice. He told us he wished we would choose life and start living abundantly. With all the questions we have are we asking ourselves the real questions? The questions about ourselves.
We may not always find the answer but we know who can help us find them.
God wants us to come to Him and stop blaming everything on the devil. The more He clears those destructive thought patterns we have, then the more we can make better choices and start to live.

      Thanks for the great comment,

  6. Your words have such strength to them, Vernon! Thank you 🙂 Blessings.
