Flipping the script is an attitude that has the power to shift a person from feeling blue to feeling new. No matter what they’re going through, or how they’re feeling at the time, it can all change in an instance, by changing their thinking, attitude, focus, and expectations (flipping the script).
The most happy and successful people on earth, have an inherent Flip the Script process built within them. They probably don’t call it by that name, but they have one. How do I know? I know because in order to continually find the positive in the negative, the winning in the losing, the blessing in the pressing, or to get up after they’ve been knocked down, one must posse the ability to constantly change their views or thought process in the face of adversity.
These people enjoy the journey and challenges of life. No matter what life throws at us, we all must choose to think positive, by flipping the script.
Flip Your Self Talk:
God has a dream for our lives that is better than anything we can imagine. But, we need to start listening to find out how to obtain it. God’s love is consistently positive, while at times our self-talk can be mostly negative. So, we must watch what we tell ourselves.
That is why God tells us “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, whatever is excellent, or worthy of praise, think of THESE things.” Am I saying positive thinking will make our lives perfect or that it will make all of our problems disappear?
No. But what I am saying is that I have never seen a bad situation turn for the better after a negative spin was put on it.
Flip Your Attitude:
It is said that a person can change their life just by changing their attitude. I remember in the eighth grade getting a ‘C’ on the final exam and my teacher, Ms. Henderson, saying, “Vernon I’m giving you a ‘B’ because I like your attitude.”
Attitude makes all the difference in how successful we are in life. When a negative thought pops into your mind, flip the script and find some gratitude and remind yourself of all your blessings.
Look for the good in your family, friends, work, and most importantly, yourself. Also, be of service to others. Remember, it is better to give than to receive. Attitude is a choice.
“Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference” – Winston Churchill
Flip Your Focus:
We all have bad things that happen in our lives, but the people who stay stuck on them too long are the people who never find their way past them. There must come a time that we speak not only about the problems of life, but also the solutions to them. We must ask ourselves, “Do I really want help, or do I want to keep crying foul?”
Focused people have visions, dreams, and goals. Life’s adversities are only stumbling blocks for these people, and not the end of the world. They also don’t let too many people into their circle and they don’t get knocked off their square easily.
They’re focused on thriving, not just surviving.
Flip Your Expectations:
We don’t get what we want in life; we get what we expect.
Jesus said, “Ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened.” We are to ask expectantly, seek expectantly, and knock expectantly.
Many of people’s problems come from putting too high of expectations on themselves and others. Expectations must be realistic. That way, there would be no disappointment if one would fall short. Expectations should also be big enough to attract, but small enough to obtain. Unrealistic expectations are toxic to the spirit.
Take a look around you. What is it that you see? What you see is your thoughts, attitude, and expectations. We cannot think the same way and expect something different in return. Change happens when actions are taken.
There is no way to talk yourself into a new way of living.
One reason why it takes a long time to change is because people take so much time getting ready. As in, telling yourself you’ll change after you find a better job, a spouse, or once you go back to school. Change for the future starts today and it starts NOW… by Flipping the Script.
