Making Meaningful Memories by Showing Love with ‘Family Time’

What an enjoyable time I had with my family two weeks ago one I’ll always cherish.

My oldest son Vernon thought it’ll be good for us to barbecue at home instead of tailgating at the Monday Night Bengals and Steelers game. He suggest we walk through the tailgate party on our way to the game.

What a great idea.

I arrived to the cook-out in a brand new Geno Atkins #97 jersey screaming Who-Dey! Everyone responded with the same cheer soon as I walked through the door; we were ready for some football!

It wasn’t too long before my wife showed up from work looking exhausted at the same time my brother Keith was downstairs giving out haircuts to the first child who had time to stop playing.

Like the Bengals would feast on the Steelers; we ate great.

Josh, my youngest son, did a wonderful job on the grill. He grilled: chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs and hot metts.

But we were all spoiled rotten by the mac-and-cheese my daughter-in-law put her foot in. It lasted every bit of fifteen minutes. As you can see we were having a meaningful time, eating, laughing, and showing each other love.

In my opinion the best way to express your love is by spending quality time with family.

When I was a little boy quality time with family was a priority for my mother.

While most mother couldn’t wait to get rid of their children for the summer, mine would embrace the opportunity.

I remember her baking cakes and me and my brother Keith would fight over who’ll get the bowl or the spoon.

My favorite memories was when she’ll read us bed time stories and narrate with different voices for different characters, scaring the mess out of us.

Love was and still is her greatest ambition and she express her love with time. This would become a personality trait I pick up from her.

The story of my growing up years teaches that true love from God expresses itself in time spent with one another. God demands us to live a life loving others, in 1 John 4:7-9 it says,

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.  Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.

God showed his love for us by sending his son Jesus Christ to save us from our sins.

Love is expressed in action more than words.

Jesus came into the world that we might live through him. In other words, Jesus showed his love for us by spending time with us.

If you want a better job of loving others spent some time with Jesus by studying his word and getting to know his better.

Then as you grow in being more like him you’ll also grow in your ability to love others. God is seen through people loving one another.
