To manage your own life is all you ever wanted. A peace of mind and heart isn’t too far-fetched as long as you’re in control. But when things don’t go your way you manipulate people and situations wanting desperately for control again so you can experience an illusion of peace. Does this sound familiar?
No one promised us that everything would always go our way but that’s what we believe when we are spiritually unmanageable. Spiritually unmanageable is when we develop an unhealthy and untrue belief system about ourselves and the world making reality unbearable. Whatever we believe is our reality whether it’s based in truth or lie.
Growing in Christ is a process of removing lies and replacing them with truth. It’s a war in our mind, heart and conscience battling for authority.
So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of their ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. (Ephesians 4:17-18)
Futility thinking is useless thinking. A “me first” thinking process that’s always trying to figure out reality. Reality isn’t for figuring out its for accepting and living.
When a person is closed-minded he becomes darkened in his understanding. No light can get in not even the Light of God. No matter how many times he hears about Christ and The Good News he will remain separated from the new life in God because of his harden heart. Life makes no sense to a person with a darkened and closed mind.
BUT CHILDREN OF LIGHT ARE DIFFERENT
You, however, did not come to know Christ that way. Surely you heard of him and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. (Ephesians 4:20-24)
What make children of light different? They learned to study God’s Word and reexamine their life in the light of WHAT IS TRUE WITHIN. They reevaluate their beliefs about EVERYTHING and became willing, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to not practice those untrue beliefs. That’s how you go about “putting off” and “putting on”. In the past they measure truth against whatever felt right.
The truth about self takes time to admit and more time to stop the old behaviors and to start practicing new ones.
It’s time we stop deceiving ourselves and let the Light of God shine bright in areas of our beliefs. We can have a complete transformation of our life when we allow God’s Word (The Truth) to be the ultimate authority of it. Because His Word can cleanses our minds, transform our thinking, and give us a new attitude and a new life.
