We Fight Until We Are Made More Than Conquerors

We live in a war zone and are constantly under attack.

Many of our struggles are a direct attack on our souls from our enemy; Satan. He’s the liar and the father of lies. He wants to kill and destroy all God’s children by assaulting them with lies, doubts, and deceit.

He patiently prowls the earth watching our every move and studying what we like and how we like it. He knows some of us better than we know ourselves.

Satan allures his prey with pleasures; pleasures of the flesh and pleasures of this world craftily disguising himself as the angel of light.

With Memorial Day just pasting many paid tribute to fallen soldiers who died severing our country because most of us appreciate the courage and sacrifice they made for our freedom.

But are we really free?

Being free is recognizing the power of sin in our lives and admit how we are helpless by ourselves against its persistence and strongholds. Only then will we be willing to accept God’s help.

After such admission we can start the life long battle towards becoming a good soldier of Christ.

What Makes A Good Soldier?

Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. And as Christ’s soldier, do not let yourself become tied up in the affairs of this life, for then you cannot satisfy the one who enlisted you in his army. ( 2 Timothy 2:3-4)

All Christian are soldiers in Jesus Christ but not all are good soldiers.

Many surrender to Satan’s temptations without a fight. But good soldiers know they are in a war that they can win only if they fight to the end when Jesus returns.

Just like Jesus they don’t fight for themselves but for the one who sent them. The All Mighty one who have overcome the world. They are willing to suffer for God, other soldiers and the ones who are still prisoners of war.

Like all soldiers, good soldiers experience pain, fear and a host of emotions. They understand their fight will be harder as believers then when they where non-believers.

They know God chose them to enlist in His army from what they had been through.  Good soldiers are overcomers and have experience battling life on its terms.

Soldiers of Christ know there will be times when they grow weary and want to surrender.

But instead choose to persevere and choose to stand firm against the evil forces that desire to keep them away from walking in freedom.

Good Soldiers Know Their Enemy

We know that we are children of God and that the world around us is under the power and control of the evil one. (1 John 5:19)

Satan has been using the same attacks against God’s children for centuries.

He was present in paradise with Adam and Eve and he thrust himself among the sons of God when they presented themselves before the LORD, so he have no problem following me and you everywhere we go.

If God allows, Satan will even go into our place of worship and have us thinking about everything but the word that’s being preached.

While we may be grounded in knowing God’s word and accept our responsibilities to live a godly life, we MUST also be aware of the invisible warfare that wages again us.

God’s Kingdom fighting soldiers have godly discernment–the spiritual capacity to know right from wrong so lets look at some of the ways Satan attacks us:

 Satan Attacks Our Minds

When Satan first approached Eve he attacked her mind with doubts about the truth of God’s word. That’s why the Bible tells us in Proverbs 4:23 to guard our heart because that’s where life starts.

Life starts and ends WITH you and IN you.

It’s important to know that when the Bible talks about the heart it isn’t only talking about our emotions.

In biblical days the heart was referred to as the whole human inner parts: Mind, Emotion and Will. All three together were considered the heart.

That’s the reason we are encouraged to put on the COMPLETE suit of armor.

When we are warned to guard our hearts we are being warned not to give into temptation of sinful pleasures of any kind.

We need be careful of who and what we listen to, as well as, what we stare at. The fruit looked delicious to Eve and the devil noticed her staring.

Our adversary knows if he can influence our thinking he can influence our actions.

Satan Attacks the Family

Marriage and family is dear to God’s heart. Adam and Eve were the first couple created by God. He was very pleased with them and told them to be fruitful and go start a family.

Satan know the foundation of a solid family is a good marriage. And the same way he attacked the first family with deceit, he blinded the minds of non-believers about marriage.

Satan, the god of this evil world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe, so they are unable to see the glories light of the Good News that is shining upon them. ( 2 Corinthians 4:4)

Getting married before God is good news. I know couples who have been together for years and when I ask why don’t they get married they ask me, why mess up what have been working?

It’s attitudes like this along with legalizing same-sex marriages are good examples of how Satan have blinded the world about marriage and attacked the foundation of the family.

And what about those who are married? Satan can distort the order of a marriage when God isn’t in the center of it.

Husbands are head of household according to scriptures loving his wife as himself by following God’s order.

But most households today are being led by wives because of husbands not taking lead and being passive.

It’s one of the main reasons for the high divorce rate. Why? Because God didn’t plan marriages to be that way. Wives are to help their husbands not lead them.

Satan Attacks The Church

If a man can’t lead his own family then it will be hard for him to lead the church family.

The home is a proving ground for potential church leaders and that’s another reason Satan attacks the family because it affects the body of Christ and the unity of the Church.

The Church is the people not the building.

Every member has been gifted in ways to make the church family strong so Satan attacks the body of Christ through division by scandals, gossip, lies and un-forgiveness.

He attacks the Church leaders through pride, false teaching and the desire to be popular.

We all have heard of Elders, deacons and preachers falling because of sexual sin. Those who teach biblical principles must also teach by the way they are living.

If not, they will let down the people they are supposed to build up.

Put On The Complete Suit of Armor

Good Christian soldier must be disciplined in Gods word and see this life as boot camp training. But how successful they are depends on how well they obey their commander Jesus Christ and how well they wear their armor.

In our next article you’ll learn the importance of each piece of armor and how to wear them properly so no parts of you are exposed to Satan’s deadly attacks except your back.

And we all know who have our backs covered.

  1. Hi Vernon,

    Lovely post indeed 🙂

You are right about all that you mentioned, and though I’m not a Christian – I do believe in the Almighty and His powers. I think we need to fight the demons within us more than anything else. Satan will keep doing his work as it’s work is to disrupt things and cause the imbalance and disharmony. But we have to decide what to go for and what not, isn’t it?

We need to prepare ourselves to face the challenges put forth in our daily lives and that happens when we have belief and faith in the Almighty, in ourselves and our abilities – leave no room for Satan or any kind of negative thought – which is the key.

Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week ahead 🙂

    • Hi Harleena,

I agree that fighting the demons within us is a must. Satan has a team of them. Some attack more obvious than others.

it’s important we learn, Christians and non-Christians, the nature of demons. Fear, jealousy, lying and deceiving are good examples of demons within.

There are many people who think it’s them when they think and act a certain way, when in fact, it’s not, it’s one of Satan’s workers.

That’s the best way we can prepare ourselves, is knowing who or what is causing us to be the way we are.

And like you said, we need leave no room for Satan to creep into our minds and plant negative thoughts that kills, steals and destroys our joy.

      Thanks for the support.

  2. Hi Vernon

Very detailed and encouraging word – it is clear by the evidence around us that we are in a spiritual war and the truth be told it looks like the enemy of our soul [Satan] is winning. As Christians, we need to be more proactive rather than waiting for things to happen.

Being proactive mean we would pray fervently and allow God to reveal the tricks and plots of the enemy and to bind them in the spirit realm so that they not manifest in the earth. The battle becomes harder to fight when things have already manifested in the earth. Many do not understand the principle of binding and loosing which we can do through our prayers or even by our thoughts and conversation.

The battle starts in the mind before it goes any place else. So what I believe would make us the best soldiers is education – teaching the word to others and each one of us applying the word to our lives. Thereafter, we are empowered to do the work of a good soldier and we become more than conquerors.

Thanks for sharing this word. Have a blessed day/rest of the week.

    • Hi Yvonne,

There is no doubt we are living in the last days. Satan knows his days are numbered so he’s stepping his game up trying to blind and kill as many people as he can.

Prayer and the Word of God are weapons we use to fight Satan and his demons back so I’m blessed you said that.

We must remember too that Solomon asked God for wisdom and knowledge so he could rule well.

We also need wisdom and knowledge to learn how Satan attacks and so we can teach others how to walk in victory.

      Thanks for the insight.

  3. “Wives are to help their husbands”…. When my husband falls short, I forget thAt is why he was supposed to get married. For a helper – not a judge.

    • Hi Diana,

It’s nice to see you here and thanks for stopping by and sharing your honesty.

I judge Nicole and she judges me also.

When we do it out of respect and love it’s received eaiser. I truly beieve that’s one of the ways she helps me grow so you just might be helping him take a look at the situation.

      Thanks again.

  4. Hi Vernon,

This is a very truthful and enlightening post.

I connected with the attack on the mind because I’ve always felt that if your mind can be manipulated everything else can.

Once something gets into your head it can command complete control over you.

Enjoy the rest of the week.

  5. Hi Lea,

I can relate. We can’t believe everything we hear, even if it’s from ourselves.

Our enmies are hard at work trying to ruin our life through deception, lies and dicouraging thoughts. Because if Satan can get a stronghold on our thinking he can control us.

    Thanks for stopping by.

  6. Hi Vernon

    A wonderful post.

You remind us which battle is most important. There are forces that we need to conquer that are trying to take control of our souls.

It would be strange if we don’t recognize that we are in a spiritual warfare which is why we must be good soldiers who will not be entangled by any distraction.

Thank you for the reminder. Take Care and a blessed week for you and your family’

    • Hi Ikechi,

You are spot on. When we recognize we are in a spiritual warfare we begin to look at our circumstances differently.

We develop the ability of understanding how we react is more important than the situation we are in.

It will help so many people not to get entangled in tough times and direct them within and on a path of peace and happiness.

Thank you as always for leaving a positive comment.

  7. Hi Vernon,
    Great post indeed 🙂
This post is fully filled with inspirations and encouragements.
Its true that external negative powers always rules on our soul but we need to overcome from them.
As you described in your post that these powers attack on us, our families and religous places like church etc.
Mostly these power attack on our mind and distract us from our way. If we distract then they will win and if we stay strong then they can never rule on us. So first of all we need to be stay strong.

    Have a blessing day 🙂

    • Hi Naveen,

Welcome to Self Reflection and thanks for stopping by.

Some people have come to the conclusion that they just can’t change. That’s because the enemy have attacked their minds into believing that.

You are right saying if we distract we win. We win by questioning our beliefs. We must stop believing everything we tell ourselves.

      Good to see you here.

  8. Hey Vernom

Great pot I Must Say. I think mind plays an important role in achieving anything in life. If we know how to manage it we will overcome all the problems in life.

Thank You for such a lovely post vernom. It was really an eye-opener

    • Hi Yash,

You’re right our mind plays a very important role because we have to give up some of our distorted beliefs in order to make sound decisions.

When we learn to manage our thinking we can start seeing all the possibilities life have to offer us because we are free from our prisoned mind.

  9. Hi Vernon
I really enjoyed reading your post. Satan will play accordingly. We just have to align our positive thoughts to neutralize the negative effects of all the negative thoughts.
We just need to wipe out all the doubting bubbles by inculcating positive mindsets. All the inner demons are temporary in nature. We have to make a positive shift within to realize the importance of inner treasure within
Thanks for this inspirational post. Have a wonderful weekend, ahead.

    • Hi Yatin,

The balance between negative and positive thoughts is critical. That’s why the bible says we must renew our minds.

You’re right, we must realize the importance of our treasure within because God wants to change us from the inside out. The evidence of those changes will be in our attitudes and actions.

      Thanks for visiting.

  10. The enemy is full of tricks but as soldiers of Christ we have a huge edge over him. God has given us inside information and ahead of time too, so that we can constantly be on the attack instead of just waiting to defend.
This is a very detailed post Vernon, and I sure many have been blessed reading it like I have.
Thanks for sharing something we all need to always remember.

    • Hi Ugochi,

The biggest edge we have is the victory is already won! Yes He have given us inside information with His word. We must be like Jesus and fight back telling Satan “It is written”

You made a good point when you said we can’t just wait and defend ourselves. The bible said His Word is alive and active and sharper than a double-edged sword so we have the power to do some damage just by speaking it.

Thanks for such a powerful comment.

  11. Hello Vernon,

Thought evoking post indeed. All your points makes sense. As an atheist I see things slightly differently. I believe heaven and hell is both here on earth. God and Satan are here too amongst us living in us. We create our own hell and heaven and invite either God or Satan by our actions. I see God in people who inspire positivity in me and Satan in those who try to breed negativity and doubt in my mind.

As I also believe strongly in Karma that good or bad results from our actions….when I’m facing a tough situation it doesn’t necessarily have to be an X person creating disturbances in my life or Satan trying to control me. I take responsibility for my actions and see it as what I am going through is just a reflection of my own past actions.

Wow! isn’t it amazing how this topic is so subjective and debatable. But at the end of the day I love when you remind us that we have take control of our lives and our souls before Satan does so.

Thank you for such a great post.
Wishing you a great week ahead:)

    • Hi Hema,

One of the things I love the most about God is that He doesn’t force His will on anyone. He allow them to believe what they want. I respect your belief the same way you respect mine.

God and Satan’s demons lives inside people.

I know for a fact God lives inside me not because I believe everything the bible says but because the transformation that’s taking place inside me.

My actions, thoughts and reactions are changing and I’m becoming more loving towards all.

I really don’t think the topic is debatable. We all have the freedom to believe what we want. I just don’t like when people try to throw what they believe on me or attack me for what I believe.

Lets just love and respect each other.

      Thanks for your honesty.

  12. Powerful message and reminder for us to put on the full armor of God! We as Christians unfortunately can get comfortable and “sleep” through life unaware that the enemy is lurking and strategically planning to kill, steal, and destroy. There is a war and we need to be ready! Thanks for the writing and the encouraging words. When you have time, check out my blog at revealed8.com. Look forward to connecting with you through social media as well. God Bless.

    • Hi Nicci,
Welcome to my blog. Yeah we can’t sleep on the devil because he is real. You know as well as I that his battlefield is in our thinking. We must be careful of what we tell ourselves but mostly what we believe.
Thanks for commenting and connecting with me.

  13. What a great post and I love it. Courage is all we need to practice all other virtues constantly.
With courage, we will be confident, optimistic and resilient to fight until we become conquerors.
